The Ellerslie mansions were built in 1855 and situated in the once-famous spa town of Great Malvern. Once a water cure establishment of Doctor Edward and Walter Johnson, they were visited by key figures such as Charles Darwin and Florence Nightingale.
These splendid buildings later became a preparatory school for girls in the 1920s before becoming part of the prestigious Malvern College.
The main building – Lind House – is named after the famous Jenny Lind, the 'Swedish Nightingale' whose last public appearance in 1883 and final resting place is right here in Malvern.
